Sydney University is proud of its association with Glebe JAFC, Moore Park Tigers JAFC and the Newtown JAFC. The introduction of the Sydney University Australian National Football Club (SUANFC) U18 Colts in 2009 provided local juniors a pathway from U16 football into the University-based senior club.
Over the last decade, SUANFC has focused on junior club relationships and the introduction of meaningful development programs at these junior clubs. Senior SUANFC players attend junior clubs throughout the year, while under the guidance of the Colts Head Coach, the SUANFC U18 Colts share trainings with Glebe and Newtown U16s.
Through its past and current players, SUANFC also shares a strong relationship with junior clubs Willoughby, Easts and Drummoyne JAFCs as well as secondary schools, Newington College and Riverview, St Ignatius. SUANFC is an open University club, accepting interest to play from both students and community members.
Since 2006, the annual SUANFC Family Day has grown to such as extent that in 2011, over 400 families attended what has become one of the most successful Australian Football community events in Sydney.
To further strengthen relationships and junior football initiatives across the junior club network, the SUANFC Junior Football Committee was formed in 2011. This committee is made up by members representing junior clubs and SUANFC and is chaired by the SUANFC Vice President, Junior Football.
While SUANFC is committeed to developing junior Australian Football across Sydney, the Club also understands its responsibility to developing local coaches. SUANFC runs annual junior coaching development sessions hosted and facilitated by the SUANFC senior coaching panel.
Each year at the Club’s Presentation Night ceremony, the Club awards “Best New Colt” to a young player having come through a junior club to SUANFC.
